Having lived in the Vancouver area most of my life, we usually have mild winter's but this year the forecast is for cooler and wetter temperatures than usual. So its time to save face for winter.
1) Moisturizer MORE!!! You should keep in mind that the moisturizer you use for spring/summer may not be the best choice for winter. With cooler temperatures you will need an oil-based product, rather than a water based moisturizer. Remember when choosing a moisturizer to look for non-pore clogging oils like primrose oil, avocado oil or mineral oil. Another great tip is to try a "humectant", which helps to attract moisture to your skin.
2) Check your toner! Make sure you are using an alcohol free toner, using an alcohol based toner will remove vital oils from your skin. Causing you to have dull, dry skin, and really who wants that?
3) Drink lots of Water! I don't think I can really stress enough that the best way to have healthy moisturized skin is to drink plenty of water. Hydrate your body from the inside out!
4) Use Lip Balm! The best way to save your lips is to keep them protected. I'm not a big believer in spending lots of money on a name brand one's either, Blistex or ChapStick brand are both relatively inexpensive, and both contain sunscreen.
5) EXFOLIATE This really is essential all year long, but lets not forget how dull and dry our skin can get during Winter. No more than twice a week with a gentle exfoliant. My personal exfoliate is a little baking soda mixed with my favorite creamy face wash.
I hope these suggestions help you look your best this winter, and keep your face happy!!!
